Questions about an official Allegany County criminal record must go to the office that keeps it. We are a private reference resource, so we cannot retrieve or change government files. The contacts below route court, sheriff, police, and state-record requests to the proper public agency.

This Is Not a Government Office. We cannot obtain official records, perform a government background check, correct a file, or receive a New York record-sealing application. Contact the record custodian directly.

Need an Official Record?

Allegany County records are split by record type and by the agency that created them:

  • Arrest, sheriff, jail, and booking records: Allegany County Sheriff's Office and Jail, 4884 State Route 19S, Belmont, NY 14813-9506; 585-268-9200 for general sheriff and jail information; administration hours are 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays
  • Felony court files and certificates: Allegany County Court, 7 Court Street, Belmont, NY 14813; 585-449-3462; 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays except state holidays; see the court case lookup for other court routes
  • Police and incident reports: ask the sheriff, State Police, or village police department that created the report
  • Fingerprint-linked personal records: use New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services Personal Record Review through IdentoGO
  • Statewide name-based court history: order the separate Office of Court Administration Criminal History Record Search
  • Record sealing: file with the proper sentencing court under the applicable New York Criminal Procedure Law remedy

Call before traveling. The sheriff facility and the Allegany County courthouse are separate Belmont locations, and neither counter can release a record that belongs to the other.
